Effect of Constraint and Crack Contact Closure on Fatigue Crack Mechanical Behavior of Specimen under Negative Loading Ratio by Finite Element Method

چکیده

Mechanical behaviors at fatigue crack tips of cracked specimens under negative loading ratios are studied in detail by the finite element method this paper. Three factors induced specimen type and on field discussed, including constraint, compressive effect (CL effect) contact closure. For mode I ratios, effects CL closure plastic strain accumulations dominant, with constraint being minor. The has monotonous zone, while both have reversed zone (RPZ) residual tensile (RTPZ). That is, higher smaller size zone; greater effect, or degree, larger RPZ RTPZ. II crack, there is only tip without closure, so accumulation much than that when they same level.

Prediction of Crack Initiation Direction for Inclined Crack Under Biaxial Loading by Finite Element Method

This paper presents a simple method based on strain energy density criterion to study the crack initiation angle by finite element method under biaxial loading condition. The crack surface relative displacement method is used to eliminate the calculation of the stress intensity factors which are normally required. The analysis is performed using higher order four node quadrilateral element. The...

Finite Element Model of Crack Growth under Mixed Mode Loading

In this paper, in order to predict the crack growth trajectory and to evaluate the SIF under mixed modes (I & II), one proposes a new finite element program for crack growth using the source code written in FORTRAN. The fin ite element mesh is generated using an advancing front method, where the generation of the background mesh and the construction of singular elements are also added to this d...

Effect of Boundary Condition on Pre-Existing Crack Under Fatigue Loading

In this paper, the present investigation has been conducted keeping in mind some of the problems concerning the crack propagation direction and growth under constant loading in an inclined crack geometry. The present studies mainly focused on the development and modifications in the crack growth criterion to account the biaxial, shear loading and number of stress terms. Existing criteria for th...

Partial crack closure under block loading

Fatigue crack propagation tests under high–low and low–high block loading sequences have been performed in aluminium alloy specimens. The tests were carried out at constant DK conditions. Two stress ratios were analysed: R = 0.05 and R = 0.4. Crack closure was monitored in all tests by the compliance technique using a pin microgauge. The observed transient post load step behaviour is discussed ...

Extended Finite Element Method for Fretting Fatigue Crack Propagation

In this paper, the extended finite element method (X-FEM) is considered for the analysis of fretting fatigue problems. A two-dimensional implementation of the XFEM is carried out within the finite element software ABAQUS by means of user subroutines, and crack propagation in fretting fatigue problems is investigated. On utilizing the non-linear contact capabilities of this code, the numerical t...
